Why change the cam belt and water pump together

• The belt keeps the engine’s valves and pistons in time. If it snaps on an interference engine, the result is often bent valves and a very large bill.
• Most manufacturers recommend replacement by mileage or age (commonly 40,000–100,000 miles or 5–7 years — check your handbook).
• Where the belt drives the water pump, the labour to reach both is almost the same. Doing the pump now avoids a second strip-down later.
• We also inspect and usually renew tensioners, idlers and related pulleys as part of a proper kit.
